The Pacific Islands

The islands of the Pacific, with their beauty and romance, have always gripped man's imagination. Raised above the sea, in wondrous and spectacular splendour, they shimmer like an oasis. For those of us in need of solitude and adventure, these idyllic, exotic and beautiful tropical islands also offer a dream escape - a place of refuge, serenity and excitement. In their greenness and freshness, the islands conjure up visions of unending youth and a heavenly paradise - crystal clear waters, sparkling white sand and surf, golden yellow rays of sunshine with a dawn to night sky of a kaleidoscope of dazzling and impressive array of superb colours - from sapphire blue to topaz and turquoise, garnet and ruby to amethyst, citrine, peridot and emerald to the unique mystique of a theatrical curtain of exquisite Tahitian black pearl and onyx, gloriously adorned by a galaxy and constellations of brilliant starlight diamonds, illuminated and moonlit by a silvery majestic mother-of-pearl - encapsulated by the jubilant embrace of delightfully cool prevailing trade winds. Of these wonderful dream-worlds, it is Oceania that offers the most beautiful, enchanting and magnificent chains of pure and natural multicoloured gem-clustered islands.

Staying in this brilliant, awe-inspiring part of our world will rejuvenate and relax even the most uptight traveler. Fortunately there are many accommodation types within the majestic Pacific Islands from pristine hotels to cozy inns and cottages, to comfortable, spacious timeshare resales and rentals scattered throughout these enchanting islands guests will revel in the one of a kind luxuries available in these beautiful vacation homes watch from your very own private balcony as the picture perfect aquamarine water turns a magnificent shade of Amber, and the golden sun disappears below the hazy horizon. Keep your balcony doors open as you rest in your king sized bed and let the sweet-smelling air of the Pacific Ocean caress you into a deep slumber these are truly magical vacation properties that are a once in a lifetime experience and the perfect way to get the most out of your dream vacation to paradise.

OCEANIA

The term Oceania is normally used to designate all the islands of the Central and the South Pacific including Australia (continent), New Zealand, and sometimes the Malay Archipelago. On this Web site, the focus is primarily directed towards the Pacific Islands of Melanesia (including Papua - formerly Irian Jaya), Micronesia and Polynesia (including the Polynesian nation of Hawai'i), as well as both Australia and New Zealand.

PACIFIC ISLANDS RADIO FM

Polynesian Cultural Center
www.Polynesia.com

Pacific Islands Radio FM has been introduced in order to facilitate the promotion of island music to a worldwide audience. This was undertaken as a consequence of a foreseen need to allow the musical component of island heritage to be made available to a wider audience.

The early music of Oceania (Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia) was composed of rhythm instruments and vocals; they comprise mainly chants without any harmonic structure and without any oriental or occidental influence. This early music was very fundamental although some islands did use flutes and drums to accompany their singing.

As there was no written language to record the history of the Pacific Islands, it was our beautiful island music that provided one essential record of our heritage and this was passed from generation to generation. Besides the tales of migration and wars, the daily life of our people was chronicled in our music.

The music played on Pacific Islands Radio has authentic examples of both the contemporary and traditional forms of indigenous music such as that of the Australian Aboriginal people, as well as Pacific Island music from the low atolls like Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Tokelau and Tuvalu to the volcanic peaks of islands like Samoa, Tahiti and Hawai'i as well as the mountain ranges of New Zealand, Cook Islands, Easter Island (Rapa Nui), the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Papua (Irian Jaya), and Fiji along with Tonga, the Federated States of Micronesia (Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap), Palau, Guam and Saipan. In addition, more unique and beautiful music from the Caroline Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands as well as the Republic of Nauru is in the process of being incorporated into the Playlists.

The music comprises traditional chants of our gods, ancestors and mythology, gospel music, the day-to-day music including songs about the beauty of the sunrise, the sunset, the islands and the people, not to mention the uniquely beautiful love songs with their haunting lyrics and melodies.

Pacific Islands Radio is dedicated to promoting our beautiful island music and our talented artists to the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If I may add that Pacific Island music is an integral part of life on the islands of the Pacific/Oceania. Indeed, the songs and dances are woven into the very fabric of everyday life. Life, love, work, play, the ocean, the gods, the earth itself; they all flow through the music of the Pacific Islands, as surely as the sand erodes into the sea. Pacific Island music is truly the music of the world and is proudly featured on our four Pacific Islands Radio stations!

My Wish
by Jane Resture
The frigate bird
The flying fish
It is time for us
To make a wish

And I wish for the sunrise
To be beautiful each time
With days that are perfect
And nights so sublime

And I wish for the sunset
To be like a long red sail
Each and every day
And you and I will always stay
Whatever we wish
Will surely come true
And I wish for happiness
For me and you

And I wish for the world
To live in peace
To live and love as one
To a simple beat

And I wish for us all
To have our lives full of love
Full of joy and happiness
And eternal love

RACHEL RATSIZAFY
*   *   *   *   *
Of Malagasy origin, Rachel Ratsizafy grew up listening to traditional Malagasy songs, pop music, Afro-American and African music. In the nineties, she performs with "Zoukafn", an Afro-Caribbean trio, "Pososhok", a South African and Cameroonian band with whom she ensures the first part of Salif Keita, and "Time-Mozam", a Mozambican group.

In 1994, she meets Emmanuel Djob and joins "The Black & White Gospel Singers" with whom she still sings today in a more international concept, "The Black & White Xperience".

It's in 2003 that she starts singing with "Jazzpel" and records three albums. Rachel Ratsizafy polished up her first solo album "Natural Born Stranger", back to her roots and inspiration: Madagascar.

Rachel called on Oliver-Roman Garcia a globe trotter arranger who is well acquainted with the musics of the Indian Ocean. With Oliver, she wrote and composed for the most part "Natural Born Stranger" released in January 2008.

More about Rachel Ratsizafy have been featured in both our Pacific Islands Radio
